Fraser Island
The biggest sand island in the world
Rainbow Beach and Hervey Bay are both gateways to Fraser Island, the biggest sand island in the world. It takes about 10 minutes by ferry from Rainbow beach and approximately 45 minutes from Hervey Bay. Rainbow Beach has more self-drive departures to the Island. Fraser Island is famous for more than 100 freshwater lakes like Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby. Eli Creek is a beautiful freshwater creek, also with loads of sand around. There are no roads on the islands, you’ll need a 4WD to get around and approximately 3 days to see it all.
